Xtreme Mud Warrior

Last Saturday morning we got up and headed to New Smyrna so that I could participate in the Xtreme Mud Warrior Run. It was on this ranch near the beach and I’m pretty sure this must have been the first run they have ever organized, because it was so disorganized!! I was pretty sure we had already registered online, however once we got there we had to wait in these not so long but very very slow moving lines. It was crazy all they were doing was crossing off your name on a sheet of paper and giving you a number and t-shirt. We’re not quite sure why that took over an hour of standing in line.

After finally getting through the mess of a line we had to go get these little bracelets that apparently let them know what wave you were suppose to go with. I’m not sure why that mattered at that point because we were suppose to be in the 11 am wave and it was now 11:45 so we were going with the 12 pm wave. It was all kinds of screwed up. We finally got to start and off we went, for the first maybe 1/2 mile (the part spectators could see) there were obstacles like walking through tires and climbing over a dirt pile, but after that the obstacles got pretty lame.

Most of the course consisted of just running through mud. Seriously these were not mud pits, it was pretty much a mud trail. At one point I think we went a 1/2 mile straight trudging through the mud. It was actually pretty annoying! There was a few walls we had to climb over and some monkey bars. Towards the end there were some “canals” as they called them we had to swim through and at that point we didn’t even feel like we were going anywhere as we swam because our shoes were so heavy when wet. These canals I’m pretty sue were man made and the whole time I was thinking “Don’t go under!! I don’t want to get an amoeba!!”
Once we got back to the end where spectators could see us again there were a few more obstacles, a bunch more mud and the finish line where we got a nice little medal of a red, white, and blue ribbon. I think they wanted us to feel like Olympians for finishing this course, haha

So overall it was ok, I won’t be doing this race again. The disorganization was ridiculous and the lack of creative obstacles was disappointing. I would much rather have done the Muddy Buddy again which was 100x’s better this race. However as our welcoming paper says the since we finished the race we are now part of the elite circle of warriors!!
